Scope
This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit stevejohnston.co, subscribe to the L’Architecte newsletter, or book a call. It is designed to comply with Quebec’s Law 25 (Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector).
Consulting engagements are governed by separate service agreements, which take precedence for information processed in the course of those engagements.
Person in charge of the protection of personal information
The site is published by StemJee inc., a company established in Quebec. In accordance with Law 25, the person in charge of the protection of personal information is Steve Johnston, President of StemJee inc.
You can reach him at [email protected] or by mail at 266, rue de la Galène, Gatineau (Québec) J8Z 3P5, Canada.
Information collected
Information you provide to us. The site has no contact form: you reach us by email or by booking a call. Depending on the method you choose, we collect:
- Booking a call (Calendly): first name, last name, email address, meeting topic, and selected time slot
- Newsletter subscription (MailerLite): first name and email address
- Direct email: your email address and the content of your message
Information collected automatically. When you visit, our servers log technical data: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, date and time. This data is used for site security and for aggregated traffic statistics, which do not identify you.
Purposes of use
Your information is used solely to:
- Respond to your requests and prepare for the meetings you book
- Send you the newsletter, if you have consented to it
- Ensure the security and proper operation of the site
- Understand site traffic, on an aggregated basis, in order to improve the site
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Consent and withdrawal
We process your information on the basis of the consent you give by providing it to us: booking a call, subscribing to the newsletter, or writing to us. You may withdraw this consent at any time.
For the newsletter, every mailing contains a one-click unsubscribe link. For any other withdrawal request, write to the person in charge of the protection of personal information (contact information above).
Third-party services and subcontractors
We use a limited number of providers to operate the site. Each one has access only to the information necessary for its function:
- WP Engine: site hosting
- Cloudflare: content delivery, protection, and cookieless traffic measurement (Cloudflare Web Analytics)
- Calendly: online appointment scheduling
- MailerLite: newsletter management
- Google: font loading
- Microsoft 365: processing of the emails you send us
These services have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
Communication outside Quebec
Several of these providers (WP Engine, Cloudflare, Google, Calendly, Microsoft) are American companies; MailerLite is established in Europe. Their services may involve the processing of information outside Quebec. Before any such communication, Law 25 requires us to conduct a privacy impact assessment and to enter into a written agreement ensuring adequate protection. We limit the information transmitted to what is strictly necessary, namely contact data and technical logs.
Cookies
In normal use, this site does not set any cookies. No audience measurement, no advertising, no profiling. No identification, location, or profiling function is activated by default, so you have no consent choice to make in order to browse here.
Our traffic measurement (Cloudflare Web Analytics) works without cookies and without a visitor identifier: it counts pages viewed on an aggregated basis, without tracking you from one site to another. Our content delivery provider may set a cookie that is strictly necessary for security, only if it detects suspicious activity. If you use a tool embedded in the site (Calendly appointment booking or the newsletter form), that tool may set its own functional cookies at the time you use it.
If we were ever to add a measurement tool that sets cookies, we would inform you and offer you a way to refuse it.
Retention
Information related to a contact request or an appointment is retained for as long as necessary for follow-up, and for a maximum of 24 months after our last exchange. Newsletter information is retained until you unsubscribe. Technical logs are retained for a short period, then deleted.
Your rights
Under Law 25, you have the right to:
- access the information we hold about you
- have it rectified if it is inaccurate or incomplete
- withdraw your consent and ask us to stop using it
- request de-indexing or the cessation of dissemination, in the cases provided for by law
- obtain your information in a structured technological format (portability)
To exercise a right, write to the person in charge of the protection of personal information: [email protected]. We respond within the time limits provided for by law, at most 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca).
Automated decisions
The site makes no decision concerning you that is based exclusively on automated processing.
Information about minors
This site is intended for executives and professionals. It is not directed at persons under 14 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Confidentiality incidents
In the event of a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious injury (for example, unauthorized access), we will promptly notify the Commission d’accès à l’information and the persons concerned. We keep a register of confidentiality incidents, which is provided to the Commission on request.
Changes
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in our practices or in the law. The version in force is published on this page, with its date of last update. In the event of a significant change, we take reasonable steps to notify you.
